Damavand South Face

  • Overview
General Info

This trip includes summiting mountain Damavand from its southern route through Gosfandsara and Bargah Sevom. Usually, the program starts from the small village of Polour and the altitude of 2300 meters. Then, the mountaineers head to Gosfandsara with 4×4 cars; the altitude here is 3200-meter. From there, the trekking starts to the Bargah Sevom and the altitude of 4200 meter where they will stay for the night. The next day, the mountaineers go for acclimatization to around 4600m and then return to camp or shelter. Finally, there is the summiting and return to camp. The southern route of Damavand is the easiest and at the same time the most popular way to ascend Damavand.

Mount Damavand

The 5610 meter Mount Damavand is the highest mountain of Iran and the highest volcano of Asia. In addition to its importance as a natural phenomenon, it is also culturally significant. Damavand has an active presence in culture, literature, Mythology and art of Iran. It represents power, resistance to difficulties, survival and patience. In the epic masterpiece of Iranian Shahname, that is compared with Iliad and Odyssey of Homer, Damavand is where the borders get defined. The master archer, Arash, stands and with his arrow defines the border of Iran. It is also the place where the great demon is imprisoned.
